Hello!
This week I had the pleasure of teaching a 9-year-old friend, Margaret how to make a book! Margaret created a wonderful story about a unicorn within a girl’s imagination. She used very few words in the book (3 to be exact!). Instead of writing a story, Margaret focused on weaving a narrative- and a dreamy experience for the reader- through pictures. We also made magnets, buttons, bookmarks, etc. featuring the story’s characters and Margaret’s Fantasy Press logo. This process was tons of fun and the results were so satisfying! Seeing your ideas transform into a “real” hardcover book? Always a good choice.
I must say, I think making books is THE GREATEST. And kids making books? Extra great. Check back soon for a new post about at-home publishing for kids.
Thanks for a great week, Margaret!

We got the first basil and blackberries of the season from our farmers this week!!! I was eating these raw brownies (which are really delicious, by the way) with friends and decided to try some basil and berries on top. One thing led to another, and yesterday I made this little beauty:
creamy vegan basil ice cream
with blackberries and cacao nibs
1 can coconut milk*
1 cup raw cashews, soaked for at least one hour and drained
1/2 cup pure maple syrup (or other liquid sweetener)
1/2 vanilla bean, scraped
pinch of salt
1/2 c tightly packed fresh basil, or to taste
*I recommend Native Forrest brand organic coconut milk, because the can is BPA free.

Combine all ingredients in high speed blender and blend until smooth. Pour mixture into ice cream maker and follow manufacturer’s instructions. Serve with fresh blackberries, cacao nibs, and basil. (optional)
